LEARNING COMMITMENT INTERVIEWS

Over the last few weeks we have been talking about our strengths in preparation for the Learning Commitment Interviews.  This week on the 26th & 27th of March, parents are invited to make an interview time and discuss their child's learning goals with their teacher.

LEARNING DETECTIVES

Today we had a visit from the 'Learning Detectives'.  Three senior children - Andre, Oli and Rowan came to introduce themselves to us.  They will be talking to us throughout the year to find out our opinion about school events.

USING THE INTERNET SAFELY

Today Constable Sommerfield came to see us again to talk about using the internet safely.  He told us to be careful when using the internet and to make sure an adult is around to help us.  The pamphlet below will be coming home with the children today.  Please take this opportunity to discuss the safe use of the internet at your house.

PERFORMING PLAYS

Today the 'Super Dogs' reading group performed a play to the class called 'Worm Fritters'.  Our Teacher Aide Kaye did a wonderful job helping us.

CULTURAL SWAP

Today we started Middle Team Cultural Swap.  This is when we move around to different classes in the Middle Team to learn music, drama, dance, art and languages.  Room 11 children are going to Miss Cassidy to learn about art for the next few weeks.  Mrs McCulley is teaching Room 10 music.  Today Adele (Arrochar's Mum) came along to play guitar and have a sing-a-long.

EVEN & ODD NUMBERS

We have been learning about even and odd numbers at maths time. Here is a fun song we listened to to help us remember.

KEEPING OURSELVES SAFE

At the moment we are learning how to keep ourselves safe. Today Constable Sommerfield came to teach us about what to do an unsafe situation. He taught us lots of important things.

POETRY SHARING

Every Monday we meet with Room 10 and share our published poem. We get to vote for the person who we think has presented their poem the best. We love sharing our work with Room 10 and we are proud of the lovely poems we illustrate.

ART GALLERY VISIT

Today we went to the Dunedin Art Gallery. John, the teacher at the art gallery showed us lots of wonderful artwork. We got to vote for our favourite pieces. We got to explore one of the large blown-up artworks and watched a funny movie. Then we went into the art classroom to create some beautiful art related to our identity. Our artwork will be on the blog for you to see soon, then it will be on the wall to decorate our colourful classroom. Please feel free to come and have a look.

LAST DAY OF SWIMMING

Today was our last day of swimming. To celebrate all our great progress we had a picnic on the grass in the sunshine.

WALKING TO SWIMMING

This week we have been walking to swimming in the sunshine. We have enjoyed the exercise as well as our fun swimming lessons.

DANCING STARS

Several children were invited to a production studio on Tuesday to dance. They will be appearing on a television show soon. How exciting!

COLLEGE TEACHERS

Every Tuesday morning for the next 6 weeks we will be having three Graduate College Teachers in our classroom. The College Teachers will be reading stories to the children, taking guided reading groups and teaching fitness lessons. We hope Mr Mountfort, Miss Noronha and Miss Menzies have a fantastic time teaching in Room 11.

SWIMMING FUN

We are enjoying going to swimming lessons each day. Already the children are improving which is fantastic! It has been very cold and wet so we have been travelling on the bus. Hopefully it will be sunny so we can walk to the pool tomorrow. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who have been helping us this week.

BELLA COMES TO VISIT

Katarina's dog Bella came to visit us today. She was extra cute and had amazing behaviour! She is welcome to visit Room 11 anytime!

CONGRATULATIONS TRIATHLETES!

Congratulations to all the children who participated in the Weet-Bix Triathlon in the weekend. We are all very proud of you!

SWIMMING STARTS ON TUESDAY

Swimming for all Middle Team children starts tomorrow. Please remind your child to take their swimming togs and a towel to school. They will also need a warm jacket and sensible shoes to walk down to the swimming pool.

FUN WITH BOXES

This week, the optional extra for homework was to create something out of a box to share with the class. On Friday we had an amazing assortment of boxes. Mrs McCulley was very impressed with how creative the Room 11 children are. Take a look at all the wonderful creations:

BIRTHDAY TIME

On Tuesday it was Mrs McCulley's birthday. Mrs McCulley was very spoiled with lots of lovely gifts and handmade cards. We had lots of fun doing birthday activities and enjoyed eating chocolate cake!
