'ME' BAGS

To help us get to know each other we are creating 'Me' bags.  Today we decorated a bag and this weekend we are going to gather 5 special things in the bag and bring them to share on Monday.  Here is the poem that went with our bag:

In this bag you will find,
Things that show that I am one of a kind,
Five bits and pieces of things I like,
It might be family, friends, a hobby or bike
So when I share these things with you,
You’ll find out things you never knew!

Mrs McCulley shared her 'Me' bag with us.  Inside she had:

A photo of her and her husband 'Lee'
A keyring with a photo of her dog 'Poppy'
A shell from her favourite beach at the end of her street
A fridge magnet showing her two nieces 'Millie' & 'Brooke'
A smiley face teacher pen

We are looking forward to seeing everyone else's bags on Monday!

TE REO MAORI WITH MRS YEOMAN

Every Friday morning this term we are going to see Mrs Yeoman.  She is teaching us new waiata (songs), karakia (prayers), whakatauki (sayings) and vocabulary.  It is lots of fun!

SUNHATS

It is important that all of the children in Room 11 have a sunhat at school each day.  We never know when the Dunedin sun will come out and it is always good to be prepared!  Thank you with your support to keep the children sun safe.

CONNECT TOPIC

Our first topic for the year is 'Connect'.  Important ideas in this unit include:

*  getting to know each other
*  sharing information about ourselves
*  making connections with others (what do we have in common, what differences do we have?)
*  making new friends
*  co-operating as a team

This week we made puzzle pieces about ourselves and joined them together to make a Room 11 puzzle.

CLASSROOM WISHES

On the first day of school we discussed three important questions:

1)  What would you like your teacher to be like?
2)  What would you like to learn about in Room 11 this year?
3)  Is there anything you would like help with?

Everyone wrote their ideas on Post-it notes and added them to the charts.  We found out that the children in Room 11 would like a teacher who is nice, kind, fun and happy.  Popular things that the children would like to learn about are maths, computers, animals, dogs, sports and someone wrote "everything!"  Some people would like help with writing, spelling, times tables and handwriting.

Mrs McCulley will do her best to grant everyone's wishes this year!

CLASS TREATY

This week we created a 'Class Treaty'.  Our treaty includes all the rules of our classroom to make sure everyone is safe and happy.  We used our fingerprint and signed our name to agree to the treaty.  It will be displayed on our classroom wall for the rest of the year to remind us of how to work well together.
